Motecha Automated Waste Accumulation and Baling Solution at the Ecoservice Sorting Center
Even with modern sorting lines in place, success depends on more than just sorting. It is essential that the entire process – from the moment waste enters the sorting center to its baling and transportation – runs smoothly and efficiently. A non-automated accumulation and feeding stage to the baler often becomes a real challenge, even a bottleneck.
This was exactly the issue faced in 2025 at the newly upgraded Ecoservice waste sorting center in Vilnius. While the sorting lines operated efficiently, the accumulation and transfer of sorted fractions to the baler were carried out manually. This slowed down operations, disrupted workflow, and created additional costs and safety risks.
Motecha’s Engineering Response
The Motecha team was invited to quickly resolve this gap. “This was our standard Walking Floor system – highly adaptable, easy to configure, and, most importantly, maintenance-free,” explains UAB Motecha founder Algimantas Ramaneckas.
Accumulation is often considered a secondary process, but it directly impacts the performance of the entire line. “Our solution eliminates the need for manual labor, reduces downtime, improves cleanliness, ergonomics, and ensures stable line operation,” adds a Motecha representative.
System Overview: Technology That Keeps Moving
How the System Works
At the Ecoservice sorting center, eleven walking floor bunkers were installed, customized for different waste fractions and the facility’s layout. Each bunker is equipped with smart fill-level sensors that continuously monitor waste volumes in real time. When a bunker is full, the system automatically initiates feeding into the baler, which operates in full synchronization with the bunkers.
All equipment is centrally controlled with remote monitoring capabilities, while the system’s design ensures minimal maintenance requirements.
Results for the Client
Within a few months, the system enabled Ecoservice to fully automate waste accumulation and feeding into the baler. This significantly reduced manual labor, improved workplace safety, increased overall efficiency indicators, and addressed a previously underestimated automation gap in the process chain.
“We highly value our cooperation with Motecha – the project was delivered on time, smoothly, and with full attention to our needs and goals. The team not only provided a technical solution but also took the time to understand our operational specifics, which helped us achieve results that truly enhance our efficiency and improve working conditions for our employees,” emphasize Ecoservice representatives.
Ecoservice’s Maintenance Manager, Andžej Juchevič, highlights that the new system not only optimized daily operations but also improved planning capabilities: “With this project, the transfer of sorted waste into the baler was fully automated. This reduced manual labor, improved process safety, and ensured stable, continuous baling. We are already seeing higher productivity in this stage, as the process is now uninterrupted. At the same time, we can allocate staff time more effectively, focusing on other value-adding tasks.”
